A few simple meditation techniques so you can rest easy.

Meditation before sleep is a excellent way to get the sleep you need to tackle life’s daily obstacles. With this being said, we’re going to cover some excellent meditation techniques that will help you rest easy.

Counting Down

Counting down as you unwind is an excellent method of meditation. Once you’re lying in bed, gaze upward. Then, begin couting down from 20 (or 10) as you imagine yourself decending a staircase or a hill. What’s great about the counting down method is that you can use it in combination with other meditation techniques to fall asleep easier.

Mindful Meditation

Mindful meditation is the process in which you focus on different aspects of your life as the day is winding to a close. By tackling matters one at a time, it allows your thoughts to slow down in your mind as you’re about to fall asleep.

In addition to helping you fall asleep, you’ll also learn how to let go of certain matters… which is a huge growing experience (as an individual). Some people go as far as writing down what they’re letting go of in a journal/diary to keep track of their personal development.

Abdominal Breathing

Abdominal breathing is an excellent technique to learn… regardless if you’re going to sleep or not. To do this, you’ll need to focus on inhaling and exhaling from your abdomen. Once you begin focusing on your breathing patterns, you’ll realize that the process is very distracting (as it calms your nerves). Some people go as far as closing their eyes or listen to music as they practice their abdominal breathing.

Guided Imagery

This process may take a bit more imagination, but the end results are fantastic. To begin, try thinking of a place that you’d consider safe (such as a beach or a forest) and imagine yourself physically being at the safe place. Whether it be an ocean, sand, or surrounded by bubbles, your safe place (and imagination) is what’s going to help you drift off and achieve the sleep you deserve.
